Which of These Top Holiday Jobs Will Be Right for You?

It’s great to have a little extra cash around the holidays but when you already have a full plate, it’s not so easy to make time to earn it. On the other hand, in today’s thriving economy, businesses look for additional staff to meet their customers’ needs with some flexibility and decent pay. Are you ready to help them out and yourself?

Retail is ramped up. Stores like Macy’s, The Gap, Walmart, Target, and more, have a lot to sell to a lot of customers this time of year. Target alone is hiring more than 100,000 workers for jobs like sales, cashiers, backroom work, and food services. And Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s expect to hire some 80,000 seasonal workers for their stores, and call, distribution, and online fulfillment centers. In addition to earning your pay, retail stores often have added perks like merchandise discounts.1

Toy stores are where it’s at. If you want to jump into retail in a way that truly celebrates the season, hop into the holidays by way of a toy store.  Toys R Us may be on the verge of closing its doors forever, but in its final gasp, it is set to hire more than 12,000 employees for the holidays.1 They’re also looking to fill some work-from-home positions in virtual call centers. But even if the Toys R Us near you is already shuttered, local toy stores and kids’ boutique shops often need some extra help now. And those hobby-themed kiosks at the mall might just be looking for you.

Santa needs a helper. Literally, some of those department store Santas could use an elf or two. What a fun job! And there are also harried parents and workers who just need a little help with the kids or errands. Babysitting and nannying can be easy ways to pick up some added income, while spending time with the people who love the season most.

Delivery people please. The U.S. Postal Service, UPS, and other delivery and distribution centers have never been busier. With millions of people shopping online, thousands are needed to process their orders and deliver their packages. UPS alone expects to hire 95,000 seasonal employees including drivers and driver-helpers.1

Rideshare drivers needed for holiday revelers. If you have a clean and reliable car, and a good driving record, you could join a rideshare service for the holidays. Lots of people wisely choose not to drive after holiday parties and celebrations. You can be their private chauffeur by way of the app on their phone. Services like Uber and Lyft let you make your own hours and say yes or no to the passengers you pick up.
