What's New in Online Learning and Why You Should Care

Even before the internet, there was a form of online learning where users relied on software and telephone lines. People were eager to learn and they weren’t going to be discouraged by long distances. Today’s online platforms are versatile, sophisticated, and user-friendly. It doesn’t matter if you live next door to the college or 500 miles away; you can conveniently access your courses, classmates, and instructors.

And online learning is continually evolving. Here’s what’s going on and why you should pay attention:

Strong Security and Privacy Procedures

Every day, it seems like some big company is getting hacked and people’s personal information is at risk. That’s why you need to make sure that whatever online program you consider takes the right precautions to keep your data safe. When you enroll in a program and register for your first classes at Charter College, we provide you with a unique login and password for the secure website you’ll access for your classes and student information. Before you initially access the site, we’ll verify your identity and student information. We’ll do all we can to keep your identity confidential; but you should also take steps to secure your privacy. Make sure your login and password information are kept safe. Don’t share them. Don’t use the same password for multiple sites. And if you think someone has accessed your information, you should notify the school immediately so we can reset your privacy settings.

Online Orientation

Online programs are more user-friendly than ever, but to make sure you get started on the right foot, Charter College conducts an online orientation. We’ll let you know the technology you’ll need and show you how to use the learning platform. We’ll also explain how the courses will be run, let you know our expectations of you, and answer any questions you may have. If you’re taking an online program with us, you’ll need to complete your orientation prior to 11:55pm (AKST/AKDT) of the first day of the first module. Online programs require you to be dedicated and have self-discipline. Do you have what it takes to succeed in online programs?

Blended Learning

Did you know that some online programs offer you the best of both worlds? You can learn online AND get some classroom time. Blended learning combines the two so you can learn in a way that’s more convenient and flexible. You can also save on travel time and expenses. But you’ll also benefit from in-person discussions and hands-on training. At Charter College, you can study to be a Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Welder, or HVAC/R Technician in the blended learning format.

Tech Support Center

Whether you’re new to online learning or have already taken an online class, you never know when something could come up that you need help with. If an issue comes up that requires more than restarting your computer, it’s great to have a resource like the Online Course Support Center to help get back on track as quickly as possible.

Isn’t it great to know you can advance your education without spending all your time on campus? If you like the sound of preparing for a new career with online or blended learning programs, contact Charter College today to learn more.
