Have You Thought of These Great Careers for Women?

Published: March 8, 2017 | Updated: November 18, 2019

Today is International Women’s Day! At Charter College, we think women and all their accomplishments should be celebrated every day. And this year’s theme is right up our alley: Be Bold for Change. Because we don’t think there’s such a thing as “careers for women” at all. You can be and do anything you want!

All you need is passion, desire, follow through, and the right training. Check out these 4 careers that might be right for you:

1) Information Technology

Computers help run just about every business in the country. That’s why careers in information technology are expected to grow faster than average through 2024.1 And there are so many to choose from. But there’s also a lot to learn. If you want to find success in an IT career you’ll need to know about:

  • Hardware and Software Applications
  • Networks, Systems, and Servers
  • Web Design
  • Cloud Applications
  • Data Management
  • Ethical Hacking
  • IT Project Management
  • And More!

2) Business

Gone are the days when your only option for a business career was to be the boss’s assistant. You can still start there as an Administrative Assistant, but where that single opportunity could lead is only limited by your drive. Maybe you want to work for a small company, keeping their books and making sure they meet their profit margins. Or as an HR Manager in a large corporation. Or maybe you’ve always dreamed of taking your great ideas and turning them into your very own business. Whatever your business move, you’ll need a solid understanding of business basics such as:

  • Finance and Accounting
  • Operations and Management
  • Payroll and Human Resources
  • Project and Resource Management
  • Strategic Planning and Implementation
  • Data Drive Decision Making

3) Trades

If you like to work with your hands—and your head—then maybe a career in the trades is right for you. HVAC/R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) systems help maintain air quality and temperature in houses, buildings, malls, and arenas. They need regular maintenance to run properly and someone to fix them when they don’t. The same goes for refrigerated trucks, units, and rooms. That fine dining establishment would be lost without its walk-in freezer. And your local grocery chain would go out of business without proper refrigeration.

Welding is a career—and skill—that is used across industries.  From the construction of buildings and bridges, to pipelines and water and sewerage systems, welds and welders are needed to put and keep everything together. But as a welder you might also work with scientists, helping them build metal models of the designs they come up. Or with racecar teams, building and repairing their winning rides. Or maybe you dream of exploration? Welders are needed for underwater rigging in the depths of the ocean and rocket ships headed to the skies.

Whatever your dreams are, you can make them come true. We’d like to help. At Charter College, we’re looking for some determined women who want to build a better life through a better career.
