Charter College Student Discovers What She Wants to Do With Her Life

Published: January 17, 2018 | Updated: November 10, 2020

Brittany Bartholomew was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant and as much as she loved her patients, she was starting to lose her passion for the career. She felt she was destined for bigger things. Although she knew she wanted to stay in the medical profession, she really didn’t have a direction and was feeling discouraged. Then, her mother took a look at Charter College with the idea of continuing her own education. Mom took a pass, but the idea lit a fire for Brittany.

“It turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me,” said Brittany. She enrolled into the Medical Assistant program at Charter College and hasn’t looked back. “This is what I want to do with my life.”

According to Brittany, the program provided her with valuable instruction and skills, but it was the staff that really made a difference. The instructors did everything they could to help her and the other students. She said it was clear that they really cared about what they taught and about the success of their students.

Training from Charter College, coupled with her own initiative and determination, have been a game-changer for Brittany. She loves her job as a Medical Assistant in internal medicine at Billings Clinic and says she’s always busy, always learning.

“I get to do so much. It depends on the day and what’s going on,” said Brittany. “I room the patients, get their histories, give immunizations, take care of med refills, talk to pharmacies and other clinics, set schedules. There’s tons to do, but I love it. I can’t stand just standing around."

As to where her passion for a medical career comes from, Brittany thinks it probably goes back to her own childhood. When she was 15, she helped to take care of her grandmother. It left an impression. Today, she says that her patients inspire her every day.

“They make my day,” Said Brittany. “They are why I do it. They make my days complete and whole—even rough days. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Well, sort of.

Brittany is always looking for the next way she can help others. That’s why she’s staying on at Charter College to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Administration. She thinks she’ll be able to make even more of a positive impact in healthcare with a deeper understanding of how everything is run. She’s ready for the next chapter, whatever that is.

When she speaks about Charter College, she says: “It was fantastic. It continues to be fantastic, even though I’m not on campus now. I hope more people find Charter.”
