Be Wary Of Predatory Debt Relief Companies

Published: April 8, 2016

Students like you are the target of many debt relief and student loan relief scams that are prevalent now. They play on your fears and offer promises of making your financial challenges disappear by consolidating loans or resolving defaults. Some of these companies are using school logos and even the Department of Education logo illegally to appear credible. Don't be fooled.

A few things to understand:

  • You NEVER need to pay for loan benefits for Federal student loans.
  • Your school or your loan servicer are the only organizations who should be communicating with you about your loan. Suspect an imposter? Call your servicer.
  • Never provide your Federal Student Aid PIN or FSA ID to a third party.
  • Never sign a "third party authorization" for your loan.
  • Do not trust promises of immediate debt relief or loan forgiveness.

If you are having challenges with your student loans, TALK with a Charter College Education Loan Specialist by calling 866-315-0391, they are here to help you.
For additional information about federal student loan scams and how to avoid them, visit the
Department of Education's website.
