1.  How can I complete a 4-year degree in 2 and 1/2 years at Charter when other colleges require 5 or 6 years?

Charter College students can take advantage of the efficient, fast-track calendar system of five ten-week terms, or quarters, each calendar year.  An academic year at Charter constitutes three quarters of instruction.  The year-round classes allow today's students to complete their degree as time-efficiently as possible.


2.  Is Charter College accredited?

Yes, Charter College is nationally accredited through the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (www.acics.org).  Charter is also authorized as a bachelor's degree granting college by the Alaska Commission on Post-Secondary Education (www.state.ak.us/acpe). 


3.  I need to keep my daytime job.  How can I work and go to college at the same time?

Charter College offers a flexible full time, half time, or part time schedule of day and evening classes, or a combination of the two, that allows students both to attend classes and to continue working.


4.  I have some credits from another college.  Can I transfer those credits to Charter?

Yes, if your credits meets Charter’s criteria on advanced standing.  Many Charter College students transfer credits from other accredited, degree-granting institutions.  Please contact an Academic Associate by calling 888-463-7001 or click here for more information.


5.  I am interested in the bachelor's degree, but I may need to move out of Alaska in the next year or two.  What are my options?

The Bachelor's degree curriculum at Charter College is built on top of the Associate of Applied Science degrees and Certificate programs. If time becomes a factor, students may be eligible to receive a Certificate or an Associate degree in 60 weeks based on the courses they have taken while pursuing the Bachelor's degree. 6.  Would I have to retake courses if I wanted to pursue the bachelor's degree after I complete the associate degree?

No, for students who continue to pursue their studies, classes taken at the associate degree level can be transferred to one of Charter's bachelor degree programs.


7.  What is professional certification and why is it important?

Professional certifications are industry-standard credentials, achieved by independent testing of a student's knowledge and/or proficiency in a specific area of expertise.  Professional certifications are valuable qualifications, desired around the world by employers of all kinds.  Many employers are looking for people with professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Office Specialist, Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP), and Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW), all of which can be earned within degree programs at Charter College. In addition, on-site testing for those professional certifications listed above is available to all Charter College students.


8.  What kind of academic support is available?

Students are provided assistance in their studies by tutors during study hall hours, from library resources and by instructors via email or during office hours.  In addition to traditional library resources, students have access to state-of-the-art computers and curriculum-specific software. Students can utilize the Internet, research databases, reference thousands of Ebooks, and access these resources from off campus as a "virtual library."  Students also receive individual financial aid assistance, personalized registration, and records support from the Department of Student ServicesAcademic Associates at Charter provide further assistance with academic advisement and encouragement to succeed.  The Charter College Student Support Committee provides valuable support for students.


9.  Do Charter's programs meet current industry needs?

Yes.  Through continuing contact with the Anchorage business community and numerous professional and technical affiliations, Charter College adapts programs to meet current industry standards and demands.  Students are provided relevant, hands-on, practical education using state-of-the-art equipment.


10.  What is my eligibility for financial aid?

There are many financial aid programs available to Charter College students through federal, state, third party funding agencies, and scholarship sources.  Charter's Department of Student Services helps students determine their individual eligibility for financial aid and other funding options.


11.  My computer knowledge is limited to the Internet. How do I begin to learn computers?

Charter College offers entry-level computer courses for students with little or no computer experience.  In addition, students are provided more advanced computer training throughout their certificate or degree program.  Students can also take advantage of the help available through study hall teaching assistants and countless resources available in the library. 


12.  Who would help me with my job search after I graduate from Charter?
